Wolverine Gathers the X-Men in the Final Days of Future Past Trailer

20th Century Fox’s final bid to convince us to see the latest X-Men film (as if they had to twist my arm) casts the film in a whole new light as it focuses on Wolverine’s mission to gather the X-Men in the past to stop the rise of the sentinels. The new footage still casts a dark, murky blue hue whenever we see the X-Men in the future fighting for their lives, so it’s a nice change of pace to see a bit of daylight and humor in this final clip. And I love how it looks like a good chunk of this film isn’t necessarily about genocide or politics, but instead feels like a prison break caper, with Logan gathering all of the ingredients to get Magneto out of jail (under the Pentagon, natch), only to have him apparently drop a baseball stadium on local traffic. Seems like a bit of overkill to me, but Magneto has never really been good at being subtle. I’m sure sentinels are to blame for this bit of magnetic showmanship.

Of course, this ad hoc team isn’t exactly going to play nicely together. Even Charles thinks Quicksilver is a jerk. But the real joy comes from Future Wolverine (in his younger body) relate to the younger versions of the X-Men and Brotherhood members with full knowledge of what they’ll do in the future.

Are you excited for the next installment in the X-Men movie series?

X-Men: Days of Future Past arrives in theaters May 23rd, 2014.
