PAX East: Harmonix Reveals that Rock Band and Dance Central Will Return!

Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos let the attendees at his PAX East panel yesterday in on a little secret: Rock Band and Dance Central will return!

However, Rigopulos made it clear that while there will not be a Rock Band 4 or a Dance Central 4, the studio is planning to revive the music gaming franchises for the latest wave of consoles, including the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Wii U.

“We have grand plans to bring back both of them with guns blazing at some point in the coming console cycle.” – Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos

Once the biggest trend in gaming, Harmonix provided the largest library of songs ever made available for a music based game via Rock Band 3, extending it with the incredibly popular Dance Central series. But after the market shifted focus, they stopped producing the games and the instrument bundles that went with them, making them incredibly hard to find, except online where auctions for brand new and used complete sets can garner high prices, especially on eBay.

With this announcement, it appears that with this fresh reboot of the franchises, we could be getting enhanced graphics, improved instruments, and more diverse gameplay, not to mention access to more of the massive music library they’re known for. I can’t wait to see how the drums feel. I think I’ve worn mine out and I almost never play anymore. Give me a reason to play until I’m sore again, Harmonix!
