Nightwing No More! Super Spy Dick Arrives in DC’s Grayson #1 this July

grayson-comic In the wake of the far-reaching “Forever Evil” storyline, the presumed dead Dick Grayson will take on a new identity, sans tights, at the request of his mentor, Batman.

According to USA TODAY, writers Tim Seely and Tom King, along with artist Mikel Janín, take the reigns on Dick’s transition from superhero to super spy. While everyone thinks Nightwing is dead, including Alfred and Batgirl, Batman convinces Dick to stay dead and take an undercover position at the spy agency Spyral. Something tells me that secret won’t be kept forever, because shocking reveals make for good story cliffhangers, but for now, Grayson will remain DC’s newest and most secret of secret agents. However, I’m not exactly sure if anonymity is high on his spy checklist, considering that his new fighting togs include a “G” smack dab in the middle of his chest.

What will Dick’s new world look like? Along with a new costume, he’ll finally get an archenemy to call his own. Plus, it’s going to be full of the questionable tactics you’d expect from spy work. Plus, for authenticity’s sake, it doesn’t hurt that one of the writers, King, took a job as a CIA counterterrorism officer soon after 9/11, according to the USA TODAY story.

Something tells me that this will make for a much simpler translation of the character to another medium, should they ever decide to go that direction. Maybe another DC television series alongside Arrow and The Flash? Or maybe a more real world film franchise on the fringes of the eventual cinematic DC Universe? Only time will tell…

Will you be picking up this new direction for the former Robin in Grayson #1 July 2nd?
