Josh Brolin to Voice Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and Beyond

Josh Brolin has come a long way from being one of the Goonies. He will be voicing the villain Thanos in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film from Marvel Studios, hitting theaters August 1st.

While how much screen time the character will get is as yet unknown, what we do know is that Thanos is pretty much the Big Bad (using Whedon-speak) in Avengers 3 aka “The Movie Where All the Shit Goes Down”. Thanos is an A-level baddie tougher than all of the Avengers combined, which will probably lead the team to call in the Guardians, the Defenders (from Netflix), the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and any other character they’ve made a movie or TV show with since 2008’s Iron Man. They’re going to need all the help they can get.

Brolin’s deep gravel, with some studio tweaking to make it even deeper, is probably the perfect choice for Thanos’s voice outside of James Earl Jones himself, giving the character just the right amount of power and menace that would even make Darth Vader quake in his boots. For those of you who don’t know just how powerful Thanos is, think back to the scene where the Hulk threw Loki around like a rag doll. Well, Thanos could probably do that to the Hulk. That’s why a character this mean and tough needs a formidable voice, even though his body will likely be 100% CGI.

What do you think? Has Marvel made the right choice by casting Josh Brolin as the voice of Thanos?
