JJ Abrams Responds to Those Leaked Millennium Falcon Star Wars Images

Another day, another bit of Star Wars Episode VII news (and leaked pictures).

Yesterday, geeks squealed in delight as they got their first glimpse at what was undeniably pictures of the Millennium Falcon being built (practically! not CGI!) on a soundstage hidden somewhere in the UK and in deepest recesses of our fantasies. Does anyone really believe these are (oopsie!) real leaks? Abrams is the king of the subversive social media tease (take a look at the promotion campaigns for Lost, Fringe, and Super 8 if you don’t believe me) and Lucasfilm is the Jedi Master (or Sith Lord) of keeping a lockdown on set secrets, so I find it hard to believe that even the tiniest hint of a image would sneak out of the secure sound stages without bodies turning up in the Thames hours later.

This is all calculated, of course, but it’s no less fun. Abrams winkingly responded to the Millennium Falcon images and rumors with this tweet today via his @BadRobot account.

Yes, that is the Dejarik game table Chewbacca and R2-D2 were playing holo-chess on back in the original Star Wars film.

So for those of you who haven’t caught up yet, Abrams is denying the existence of the Millennium Falcon in the film while apparently standing within the Millennium Falcon. There. Glad we got that cleared up.

I don’t know what kind of leverage Harvey Levin at TMZ has over JJ Abrams, but whatever it is, here’s hoping that the non-spoilery pretend leaks keep coming.
