E3 2014: Bendis Reveals that Powers is Coming to the Playstation Network

The video game and comic book worlds collided earlier today when Brian Michael Bendis appeared at the Sony E3 Media Event to announce that Powers is coming to the Playstation Network.

What is Powers? Who is Brian Michael Bendis? Powers is a long-running independent comic created by Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming that features two police detectives who investigate crimes related to super powered individuals. And Brian Michael Bendis is the writer for that comic as well as a host of Marvel comics that you may have read at some point over the past 15 or so years, including Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and lots more. Without overstating it too much, Bendis is responsible for much of the changes that have happened at Marvel since 2001. Let’s just say there wouldn’t be an Avengers movie if he hadn’t turned the series around from a C-list title.

Anyway, after more than a little problems over at FX, where the show was originally to air, Powers is now going to be featured as a series on the Playstation Network. Everyone will get to see the first episode for free, but only Playstation Plus members will get to see the entire first season at no extra cost, which will likely run about 10 episodes.

Both Bendis and Oeming are executive producers on the show along with Charlie Huston writing the pilot and former Falling Skies head writer Remi Aubuchon sharing showrunner duties with Huston.

And while we did get a quick look at some production art from the show, we didn’t see any footage, which was a bit disappointing, because it’s not often that Bendis gets dressed up like the Kingpin of Crime for nothing. I guess they’re saving that for San Diego Comic-Con, which probably makes more sense.

So what do you think? Will you be watching Powers when it arrives December 14th?
