Community, Revolution Cancelled by NBC, Hannibal Survives

After 5 seasons, I think it’s come to the point that we’ve spent more time wondering if Community will be renewed longer than the show has actually been on the air.

As for Revolution, I never knew enough people who watched the show to actually form a debate on its fate. And while Community was always firmly camped out on the cancellation bubble every spring, Revolution, at first, appeared strong, at least ratings-wise. But after a second season plagued with a long winter break and a schedule shift from Monday to Wednesday at 8pm, Revolution lost its following.

Community‘s longtime, devoted fans have never stopped chanting “6 seasons and a movie”, even when creator Dan Harmon was kicked off the show, leading to a less than stellar 4th season. But even with Harmon’s return for a triumphant 5th season, it wasn’t enough to keep the show alive, at least on a major network. There is still hope that a 6th season could happen on an online streaming network like Hulu or Netflix. But knowing the passion of the fans and the people who work on the show, Community still has a chance to live again.

NBC cancels Revolution As for Revolution, there had been hope that it could come back for a short 13 episode 3rd season to wrap up all remaining story lines, but that is looking less likely for the pricey show, now that it’s taken on a number of other equally costly new shows, including Constantine, based on the DC Comics character. It is much more likely that Warner Bros will give it a proper send off in comic book form later this year or next.

The real surprise is the renewal of Hannibal, which garnered much lower weekly ratings than Revolution, but also runs a shorter season with much fewer visual effects and a much lower cast head count.

Stories on the latest renewals and cancellations will keep coming in the weeks ahead, so keep an eye on the Conmunity for the latest news to affect the geek community.
